Preview of the Champions League 1st Match Lions vs Mumbai Indians

Ryan McLaren has harnessed the power of positive thinking, and the enjoyment he derives from the game keeps him upbeat. The all-rounder put up a brave face after MI’s heart-breaking 9-run loss in the Champions League Twenty20 tournament opener.
In an exclusive interview with CLT20.COM, Ryan McLaren spoke losing to the Highveld Lions, areas concerning the Mumbai Indians and his skipper Sachin Tendulkar
On the reasons behind the defeat
Well let us be honest. We all know that our performance was well under par especially in the field more than anything else. Obviously, not the ideal start. In this format we need to get [our] act [together] really quickly. We have a few days before we play our next game in Durban so we have time on our hands to sort this out.
On Sachin Tendulkar's innings
The senior pro – Mr. Tendulkar - is a special batsman. You don’t find anyone [like that] in 20-50 years. It was an awesome knock. Whenever he scores it is a sheer delight to watch him.
On losing wickets regularly while chasing
Yeah, if we would have had another 50- or 60-runs' partnership in the middle I am sure it would have taken us past the target. I think it was very much a gettable target on this wicket. But in the end we lost too many wickets and that added to the pressure.
On the non-IPL teams having the advantage of playing through the season
Maybe in the first or second season of Indian Premier League, if people would have said that the IPL teams don’t gel well as compared to the local teams then it would have been correct but now we have been together for a while. We have played well in the IPL and I think we just need to focus on the basics which brought us success during IPL Season 3.
On what is next for the Mumbai Indians
Well we have a few more matches to play and I think we have a fair chance of making it into the semi-finals.
On the positives and grey areas
As I said that the regular fall of wickets added to the pressure. We just lost wickets when we didn’t want it. But we chased it down well before we fell short so there are a lot of positives too to be taken from the loss.
On the tie against the Redbacks
Yeah, now we play Redbacks at Durban. They are a good side and we need to be on our toes to pull that off. I am sure if we play to our potential then we can have good results.
